Actually, Jim Jones was an atheist and a communist at heart! He merely used the Bible to lure people into his commune.
Hokai, this is interesting. So far I have only gotten to about the 10 minute mark--twice! But it was good both times. I intend to listen to the whole thing, though, because it's an awfully interesting event. So amazing to hear the tape when he was actually convincing people to kill themselves. What a scene. What did you find interesting in the latter parts?
I've been thinking about Ken's idea of tetra meshing recently and how it might apply to this case. I will have to see the rest of it before I could really answer myself, but there must have been a failure to tetra mesh, yes? Both on the part of Jones and his collective?
I just saw the whole thing. It was so mindblowing and so sad at the end. An amazing documentary.
Yes, this sort of pathology is intriguing or even confusing for most people. Less extreme versions of this abound in the spiritual scene.
Hi Hokai,
I found a few short videos of deleted scenes that you might be interested in. There are the escape stories of a few people and also a little more about the woman who tried to talk Jim Jones out of it in the end. Here is the link:
