Leaving Fear Behind

Blurb: Leaving Fear Behind (in Tibetan, Jigdrel) is a heroic film shot by Tibetans from inside Tibet, who longed to bring Tibetan voices to the Beijing Olympic Games. With the global spotlight on China as it rises to host the XXIX Olympics, Tibetans wish to tell the world of their plight and their heartfelt grievances against Chinese rule. The footage was smuggled out of Tibet under extraordinary circumstances. The filmmakers were detained soon after sending their tapes out, and remain in detention today.

Hi Hokai,

Your recent blogs look really interesting, just the things I am most interested in. However, it is a bit of a crazy time since I am busy moving (just a few blocks away) among other things, and I haven't gotten a chance to do anything more than skim them.

I am writing for a different reason. We've started a new integral pod on Gaia! I know you don't like Gaia. I don't know anyone who loves it. But this could be really good. There are some really great people getting involved, and if you showed up it would be AMAZING!!!

It's a different concept in pods. There is an island theme, for one thing. There are the "moderated islands" and then there are the "outer islands." The outer islands will be given to people like yourself, along with technical moderator powers, to create and moderate as you please.

So power would be distributed to make room for different voices and styles of communication to create a more textured atmosphere than the usual pod with a somewhat monolythic culture to a large extent determined by the moderators.

Thread starters will have the option of adding an additional layer by "rating" their threads according to what type of communication they would like to see. For example, "peach" or "mango" for a very chilled-out, layed-back, sweet style, or "jalapeno," if they had in mind some kind of debate. It's mostly to give people who want a chilled-out atmosphere the power to determine the culture of their thread and also to warn people if there might be a debate coming. It's of course optional, though.

It would be GREAT if you could show up, though of course I would understand if you didn't. But there is a great post by Matt, for example, you might want to respond to. I think it could be really good. You can check it out by following this link:

You will also find an invitation in your Gaia mailbox as the group is set at "request-in" status.

All the best,

David

Dear David, thanks for your very kind invitation. To say that I don't like Gaia.com is an understatement. A Community that changes the world, right? It's the only place I've visited so far where clicking on "Discover your authentic self" takes you into a shop! What's left of Zaadz' promise is the pompous language, and a bunch of you guys giving credibility to the swamp. I miss some of the exchange, sure, but I can't just ignore my reasons for leaving, because nothing has changed. It's a LOHAS market bulletin board, but more insidiously also a platform for the spiritual narcissistic culture, bad for your soul, but obviously that's just me experiencing enthusiasm for the opposite direction whenever Gaia.com is mentioned.

Godspeed,

Hokai

Sorry, I didn't see this response until now, Hokai.

Yes, gaia is dreadful, and it's gotten worse, but where else is there?

Ever consider trying to start a forum? I know you participate on a Buddhist forum, but do they let you talk about all the things you want to talk about?

Not sure about any other place, and I never thought about starting another forum. Still, I think Gaia works for most people who are there, as it took over from Zaadz, because it provides more audience to anything you have to say, and therefore more opportunity to share and comment and exchange views. Also, it's a setting that I personally don't like.

Yes, Dharma Overground is mainly about Buddhism, and not just any "Buddhism" but straight, hardcore dharma practice that leads to results. This automatically discourages most of discussion that's out there. I'm a moderator there and so far we've been quite strict about keeping it real.
